When life gives you oranges...

I was recently blessed with an overabundance of oranges.  I faced a tough decision- lug out my giant, dusty juicer, or juice these babies by hand.  My hatred of washing dishes won this time, and you know what?  It wasn't so bad.  It took all of 10 minutes and my juicer didn't have to leave it's comfy home in the back of our pantry.

Loaded Orange Granitas:

6 Oranges (For bowls)
2 cups orange juice (about 8 small oranges worth)
1/4 cup vodka
2 tbsp triple sec

If juicing by hand: Place 2 oranges in microwave for 10 seconds.  Roll on counter to get juices going.  Place sieve over bowl to collect membranes and seeds.  Cut in half and squeeze those bad boys over sieve using a fork to speed up the process.  Repeat.

Cut 1/4 off of 6 oranges.  Shave just a tad off the bottoms, enough to give them "feet."  Using paring knife and spoon, remove orange goodness.  Press this (and the lids of the oranges) over sieve as well.  Mix with the rest of juice and alcohol.  Pour into 8" square pan and place uncovered into freezer.  Stand oranges in seperate pan or on parchment paper (so they don't stick to the shelf.)  Run fork through mixture a few times every hour for at least 3 hours to form crystals.  When ready to serve, scoop into oranges.  Marvel at how gourmet you are.

Warning:  If you are going to be eating these in front of children, you will need to make an alcohol-free batch.  (Or suffer their wrath.)
